Avocado Chocolate Mousse
A ragluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, low carb, vegan, and paleo dessert. This easy avocado chocolate mousse can be made in a blender in 2 minutes!
This avocado chocolate mousse is a combination of healthy and delicious ingredients that come together to create a dense, rich, and silky smooth pudding.
How to make chocolate avocado mousse
The best thing about this recipe is that it’s so simple and quick to make. All you need is:
- a couple of avocados,
- a splash of unsweetened almond milk,
- agave nectar,
- raw cacao powder,
- chia powder,
- salt,
- and a touch of almond extract.
Just throw everything in the blender or food processor and mix until creamy and smooth. The avocado gives this mousse its creamy texture and the chia powder works as a thickening agent.
Serve the chocolate mousse plain or topped with cacao nibs, fresh raspberries, and/or whipped coconut cream.
Use Hass avocados for a super creamy dessert
What does avocado chocolate mousse taste like?
Don’t worry, you will only taste a faint hint of avocado. While it’s not quite the same as a classic mousse, it’s not far off and so much better for you.
Give it a twist!
This dessert is also easily customizable. I used raw cacao powder, but you could always use unsweetened cocoa powder instead.
Replace the agave nectar with honey, or maple syrup, and adjust the amount to your taste.
If you can’t find chia powder grind chia seeds in a food processor or coffee grinder.
Substitute the almond milk with coconut milk, cashew milk, or any other plant-based milk.
Not a fan of almond extract? Vanilla works just as well!
To make this recipe paleo, replace the agave nectar with honey or maple syrup
How to store leftovers
Chocolate avocado mousse can be stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 1 week.
If you’ve never tried chocolate avocado mousse before, this recipe will take you completely by surprise!

This was great. I made some changes just based on what I had on hand-chia seeds instead of powder, maple syrup in place of agave, soy milk instead of almond and omitted the almond extract just because I’m not a fan. Delicious!!
I am glad you liked it, Molly! :)
Hi Elena. Do you think I’d be ok substituting the chia for flax powder? Similar properties and all….
Hi Allison! I have never tried it… What about omitting the chia powder? It will be less thick but still delicious! :)
Flax tends to have a bitter aftertaste. But it may be alright.
Hi Elena,
Can this be frozen and re-blended before serving?
Many thanks :)
Hi Natalie! I haven’t tried freezing it…I think the texture will not be the same
Hi Elena,
Is it possible to use normal honey rather than agave nectar?
Hi Vanisha! Yes, sure :)
How long can I refrigerate it?
Hi Sandra! You can keep it for a couple of days in the fridge
If I don’t have Almond Extract could I use vanilla? And instead of Almond Milk could I use Soy? Really excited to try this!
Hi Kelsey! Yes, you can use different flavoring and milk. Let me know how it goes :)
Could the almond milk be subbed for regular milk or rice or soy milk?
Yes, of course :)
I am using a plugin called “Easy Recipe Plus”. Is your blog on WordPress?
I made this for my sweetie for Valentine’s Day. Delish! Thank you so much for sharing it!
Thank you for your comment! I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Elana,
I am interested in making some healthier options. I don’t want to go buy a lot of new stuff (I have a freezer full of flours ets. I have already bought for recipes I have misplaced). Can I use honey or Splenda instead of the Agave nectar? I wondered if I can substitute xantham gum for the chia seeds for the thickener? I also have sesame seeds. Thanks for the recipe idea.
Lynne
Hi Lynne! You can use honey instead of agave but I am not sure about xantham gum as I’ve never used it before
Hi !
I was browsing the Internet, searching for a way to use my avocados and satisfy my sweet tooth.
I found your blog and did the recipe right away. It turned delicious !
My 3 years old is currently covered in chocolate mousse… I can tell he loved it as well !
I will definitely look at your other recipes.
Thanks from France !
Hi Claire! I am so glad your 3 years old liked it as well! :)
Thank you for trying the recipe and Merry Christmas!
Wow! This was awesome. My daughter became a vegetarian at aged 9. Now 5-1/2 years later she’s decided to become vegan. This dessert was our Thanksgiving foray. AMAZING! I did add a bit more sweet, avocado & chia as the cocoa (perhaps the brand?) was a bit overwhelming.
Served ringed with some beautiful cherries for a really elegant & fantastic dessert.
I will definitely make this again for vegans and non-vegans alike. Darned close to spot-on. and much easier!
I am pleased you enjoyed it! I am sure it was so pretty with the cherries! :)
Tammy, I wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Your recipe looks fantastic – fast and easy! I’m gonna give it a try. I’m sure my picky son won’t like it but that’ll just mean more for my wife and I! Thanks for posting this recipe.

Hi Elena,
First of all – I absolutely LOVE your blog. It is so inspiring and motivating to find that so many delicious recipe can be so nutritious and healthy, Thank you for all your efforts with this blog!
For this cacao avocado mousse, can it be made without chia powder? I only have chia seeds and I could blend them to get them ground but it still wouldn’t be the same as using the powder, correct?
I wanted to make this recipe for a birthday dinner and don’t think I have time to go find the chia powder.
I am excited to see how it turns out! I’m a big fan of your work.
Thank you :)
Carolina, thank you so much for your beautiful comment. Your compliments made my day :)
You can ground the chia seeds, it will be the same thing.
I hope you will enjoy it! :)
i’ve been planning on making avocado chocolate cream for such a long time and then i end up spooing the avocado out of the peel just like that, i’m gonna make sure to use some avocado for chocolate cream next time
Stephi, next time you should buy 3 avocados :P
