For those unfamiliar with Moscow mule (also known as a vodka buck), it’s a vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice based cocktail, served over ice in a copper mug.

I added a splash of pomegranate juice, pomegranate arils, and a sprig of mint to the traditional cocktail to take it over the top. The result is a gingery, perfectly tart-sweet drink that’s ideal for the next holiday party you’re hosting or attending.

You’ll be surprised how easy it is to make a pomegranate Moscow mule. No shaking or muddling required, just fill your copper mug with ice, pour, stir, and enjoy!

Pomegranate Moscow Mule is a festive and refreshing twist on the classic Moscow Mule.

WHY DOES A MOSCOW MULE HAVE TO BE IN A COPPER CUP?

Copper mugs have a chemical reaction with the lime juice and give it a super unique taste. There is also the added benefit of copper’s ability to keep your drink icy cold for longer. For an even colder chill, freeze the mugs for 30 minutes before serving. If you don’t have a copper mug don’t worry, it will still taste delicious. Mix it up in a highball glass or a mason jar.

CAN YOU USE GINGER ALE TO MAKE A MOSCOW MULE?

You can’t substitute ginger beer with ginger ale as you will get a completely different drink. Ginger beer is a fermented drink with a bold ginger flavor while ginger ale is just carbonated water flavored with ginger.

WHAT IS THE BEST GINGER BEER FOR A MOSCOW MULE?

There are many ginger beers to choose from, and they vary in the intensity of their ginger spice flavor. I prefer a ginger beer made with natural ingredients, not overly sweet and with a mild fiery kick.

A festively delicious holiday cocktail that's guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser!

The drink is pretty versatile, making it perfect any time of the year. Have fun with whatever is in season – peaches, watermelon or berries in the summer,  apple cider for a fall-based cocktail, cranberries or oranges for a winter variation. You can also add flavored syrups, a few slices of fresh jalapenos, and herbs like rosemary or basil.

For a non-alcoholic beverage, simply omit the vodka and add more pomegranate juice or ginger beer.

The recipe makes one drink, but you can easily make a pitcher if you’re serving a crowd.

This colorful pomegranate Moscow mule will definitely be on my menu this Christmas! Cheers! 🙂
